How to decide where to use PROMETHEUS®CZ and where HIRUNDO®?

If your soil has a high percentage of organic matter and neutral to slightly alkaline pH, then you are advised to use HIRUNDO®. This is expressly true for the Chernozem region of Moravia and the Elbe Lowlands. Nevertheless, even in areas other than listed above, HIRUNDO® applied during the main season may also bring an increase in revenues of 2-6%. Bacteria, however, will not survive in the soil in the long term perspective.

If your soil has lower amounts of organic matter (below 2%), its pH is rather in acidic values, the bedrock consits mostly from weathering hard rocks (granites, gneisses, schists), you should use PROMETHEUS®.

In case you are farming in sandy soil with the amount organic matter below 1%, recommendation of any bacterial amendment is questionable. In such soils, bacteria can't find enough substrate to get anchored to, and can be easily washed out.

Regarding the autumnal application terms... can I apply both products prior to sowing?

Both PROMETHEUS®CZ and HIRUNDO® have been registered for the application after crop emergence (September through October). Nevertheless, it is possible to apply both preparations to the seedbed preparation.

Do you recommend rather autumnal or vernal application?

We have no strict recommendations in this question as both application terms come with their own advantages and disadvantages. The autumnal application is advocated by a logical fact that earliest possible release of bacteria is desirable. Still, the vernal application produces equivalent results according to our measurments.

Can these products be applied in a flowering field?

Yes. Both products are also registered for use at the time of flowering. But note the pitfalls of this application: flowering is usually connected to sunny days and often drought. Bacteria, in general, are very sensitive to UV radiation; so, if sunny days succeed the application, benefits of the product are drastically reduced. Conversely, if cloudy weather and showers can be expected, we can fully recommend the application.

What are the ideal climatic conditions for the application?

Both products contain live bacteria, which are dependent on wet soil. It is recommended to apply them before, during or directly after the rain, or when the dew fall is sufficient; by this means the bacteria can easily get to the roots. We recommend you to avoid application under intensive solar radiation and during times of drought - in such cases, you should certainly wait with the application.

Are there any limiting temperatures?

No. Both products can be applied at high temperatures and at low temperatures (2 - 30°C) alike, unless they fall below zero.

Tank Mixes

With a few exceptions, PROMETHEUS®CZ can be mixed with most pesticides. It is compatible with herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, other supporting substances and most foliar fertilizers.

EXCEPTIONS, DON'T COMBINE WITH:

  • growth regulators (Moddus, Optimus, Caryx, Caramba, agents based on tebuconazole)
  • DAM (liquid nitrogen fertilizer)
  • foliar fertilizers containing boron
  • citric acid

Which use do you recommend? Application in intensive agriculture or rather in organic farming?

PROMETHEUS®CZ and HIRUNDO® are expressly suited to intensive agriculture. They are tailored for farmers who grow oilseed rape and opium poppy under high doses of artificial fertilizers and a wide variety of different pesticides, regardless of whether the chemical load is directly associated with the current crops or resulted from past seasons. At the same time, both preparations fulfill all the criteria for organic farming.

Caution:

Durability of PROMETHEUS®CZ is guaranteed for a period of two years from the date of manufacture, and for four months in the case of Hirundo®.
