HIRUNDO®

is a biological soil amendment registered as a fertilizer suitable for application on oilseed rape (Brassica napus), white mustard (Siapis alba), breadseed poppy (Papaver somniferum) and all types of vegetables. Active ingredient of HIRUNDO® consists of a liquid suspension of living bacteria from the genus Bacillus, which produce metabolites with fungistatic properties. It gives it the ability of vigorous suppression of various soil-bound patogenes, as well as stimulation of plant growth.

Being an endospore-forming species able of surviving stress conditions in resting stage, the HIRUNDO® bacterium is well adapted for soil dessication, both low and high temperatures, and is also highly resistant to the use of pesticides.

Bacteria present in our product utilize higher ammounts of organic material to fuel their metabolic pathways. For that matter, we recommend to use HIRUNDO® in regions with chernozems or other soil-types with high organic content and neutral or slightly alkaline pH soil reaction; these environmental requirements are best met in South Moravia and partially also in the Elbe lowlands.

PRINCIPLES OF FUNCTION

The effect of HIRUNDO® is based on free symbiosis (ie. on mutually beneficial relationship between roots of host plant and bacteria). Production of phytoalexins and the very presence of bacterial coating on the root surface serves as a prophylaxis against fungal infestation. Free bacteria living in the surrounding soil meanwhile help to clean up the environment from fungal pathogens.

Root protection against fungal diseases attacing from the soil

Bacilli present in HIRUNDO® produce chemical compounds based on phytoalexins, which inhibit fungal growth and thus keep pathogenic fungi out of reach (tested on common fungal pests as is Sclerotinia, Phoma lingam, Verticillium and Botrytis cinerea). After evaluation of field trials, we can also say that the percentage of infected plants is significantly lower in treated plots than in the control. To sum it up, HIRUNDO®-contained bacteria colonize the roots of crops, shielding them against attacks of pathogenic fungi from the soil.

Harvest gain by 3-8%

Bacteria assist to mineralization of organic matter and subsequent improvement of nutrient availability. The total yield increment is assured due to the reduction of pathogenic fungi, protection of roots and improvement in the access to nutrients.

Intended for soils rich in humus and neutral or slightly alkaline in pH reaction

HIRUNDO® is advisable for chernozems, as well as for any soil-type with high organic content (i.e. 2,5 - 5% of organic matter). If your soil belongs to lower quality class, we would suggest trying out another product of ours, PROMEHEUS®CZ.

Conditions for application

Bacteria are sensitive to UV light. For that matter, we recommend you to avoid application under intensive solar radiation and during times of drought - in such cases, you should certainly wait for cloudy sky or low sun. To make sure that the pathway to roots is as smooth as possible for the bacteria, the solution should be applied to humid soil, shortly before rain, during or after rain.

Bacteria contained in HIRUNDO® are native to our climatic conditions, thriving in a wide range of temperatures. It follows that any temperatures can be recommended for the application, unless they fall below zero.

Dosage
Application dose: 1 l/ha, amount of water: 200-600 l/ha, according to current soil humidity.

Period of application

  • autumnal application in oilseed rape: after crop emergence (i.e. during the entire autumn), also possible as a part of seedbed preparation
  • vernal application in oliseed rape: in the early spring, as soon as weather conditions allow the agricultural machinery to enter the field
  • application in poppyseed: ideally during the emergence period, including the phase of cotyledons, but later use is also possible

This product can be used in organic farming according to Council Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 and Commission Regulation (EC) No. 889/2008 on organic production and labeling of organic products.
