BASKUS®

A novel biological product to support plant health, focusing on combat against bacterial diseases in vegetables, potatoes, and all other crops.

During the cultivation of agricultural crops, we often encounter the problem of bacterial pathogens attacking plants from the soil. These diseases can be caused by any combination of a variety of bacteria, including several pathogenic species of Pseudomonas, Erwinia, Xanthomonas, Clavibacter, Bacterium, Agrobacterium or Bacillus, just to name a few. All of them have, nevertheless, similar symptoms – most noticeably the discoloration of leaves and later visible lesions and ultimately lead to the same result: severe decline in production. Negative effects of bacterial infections are generally more pronounced when crop experiences stress conditions, such as extreme temperatures (ex., below 10°C in the case of thermophilic crops), insufficient sunlight, oversaturated and/or overfertilized soil, and the damage caused by herbivorous insects and nematodes.
Therefore, we present BASKUS®, a novel biological-only product to promote plant health under stressful conditions, especially in the presence of bacterial infections. BASKUS® is a proprietary (MONAS Technology, s.r.o.) suspension of a multi-species culture “BASKUS19” (CCDM 1091 in Collection of Microorganisms), which consists of 7 microorganisms.

Mode of action

BASKUS® is effective against pathogenic G+ and G- bacteria. BASKUS® is a product that can support the health of plants during expected infection conditions. Each individual component is effective; however, this mixture of microorganisms provides more consistent effect across a spectrum of pathogens and wide-range of environmental conditions. Three components of BASKUS® support the plants' natural defenses while four components displace pathogenic bacteria.

Field trial in watermelon; Czech Republic, summer 2019
The experiment began at the time of fruit ripening, when the leaves were already damaged by diseases (in circle), and ran for 41 days. Final results show that, in contrast to the control area (left), the plants treated with BASKUS® through drip irrigation recovered and increased their production (right).

Field experiment in parsley; Portugal, January 2020
Whereas the control plot (left) exhibits visible signs of leaf yellowing, the right beds, which underwent treatment by 2l/ha of BASKUS®, remains vivid green.

Production

BASKUS® is produced in fermentation tanks. Like all products by MONAS Technology, BASKUS® is developed in a professional environment using modern technologies which guarantees consistent, high-quality products.

Recommended Application

BASKUS® is a versatile product and can be applied in several ways: through drip irrigation, or spraying on young crops, or other methods. If environmental stress is expected, or already present, we recommend early application. Otherwise, the product should be applied as soon as the first symptoms (such as yellowing of the leaves) appear. Under prolonged stressful conditions, repeated treatments are recommended. BASKUS® should be administered every 3 – 10 days, as needed. The recommended dosage is 1-2 l/ha. While significant improvement is to be expected under the lower dose, two-liters per hectare treatment has consistently yielded more and provided more positive effects.

Packaging and Storage

BASKUS® is supplied in 0.5 liter bottles, or in 5 or 10 liters barrels.
BASKUS® can be stored under standard conditions (3–20°C). And, BASKUS® can be easily produced where needed to quickly react to the customers’ needs.
