is an biological amendment that increases soil pH, and actively protects crops of oilseed rape (Brassica napus), white mustard (Sinapis alba), poppyseed (Papaver somniferum), sunflower (Helianthus annuus) and various types of vegetables from various fungal diseases attacking from the soil. In addition, it's capable of releasing nutrients otherwise locked in the organic matter and increasing pH value of the soil. Active agent contained in the PROMETHEUS®CZ preparation is formed by living cells of Pseudomonas bacteria in liquid medium. Based on mutual positive interaction between bacteria and the plant, positive harvest gain is ensured. This product is protected by our patent. |
The effect of PROMETHEUS®CZ is based on free symbiosis (i.e. on mutually beneficial relationship between roots of host plant and bacteria). Pseudomonades actively protect roots from various fungal diseases, herewith being capable of limiting the lifetime of sclerotia. Moreover, their metabolic processes regulate soil pH. After establishing symbiosis, the herbal nourishment is improved by the means of nutrient uptake facilitation: the plant is allowed to absorb otherwise unavailable nutrients. PROMETHEUS®CZ also helps in organic matter mineralization. Another advantage of this particular bacterium is the fact that it can highly tolerate intensive farming conditions, including the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
BENEFITS 101A brief summary of the benefits of PROMETHEUS®CZ:
|
Pseudomonades present in colonize the roots of rape, poppy or sunflower, creating a benefitial relationship with the plant: the free symbiosis. Chemicals produced by the bacteria are able to inhibit the growth of fungal pathogenes.
In the laboratory, we ascertained that pseudomonades produce metabolites allowing them to keep pathogenic fungi out of reach (tested on Sclerotinia and Phoma lingam, Verticillium and Botrytis cinerea). After evaluation of field trials, we can also say that the percentage of infected plants is significantly lower in treated plots than in the control.
PROMETHEUS®CZ treatment leads to better yields even in those years when the stress caused by fungal pathogens stays low. It is possible thanks to the release and disclosure of nutrients from the soil. Multiple processes contribute to this effect: adjustment of the pH reaction (see below), leading to the publicly accessible forms of phosphorus, release of nutrients bound in organic matter (mineralization), and decoupling of complex inorganic compounds. Improved nutrient uptake is reflected in the total yield of seed and its oil content.
Increment in soil pHOn more acidic soils, the pH is adjusted towards higher values due to metabolic activity of the bacteria. The intensity of this shift is dependent upon the initial acidity of the soil (see graph): the more acidic the soil is, the more significant increase we can expect (based on the total of 260 samples taken directly from the active fields). In the oilseed stands, there was an average increase in pH by 0.4 degrees |
PROMETHEUS®CZ is advisable for all types of soil with a lower quality class, which stands for pretty much any land in the Czech Republic, with the exception of the Elbe region and Hanná.
PROMETHEUS®CZ is not recommended for use in regions with chernozems or other soil-types with high organic content (3-5%) and alkaline reaction (over pH 7). In such cases, we suggest trying out another product of ours, Hirundo®.
We have cooperated with the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague. Bacteria from the genus Pseudomonas are regularly used for disposal of oil derivatives in the soil in military areas or after accidents.
Laboratory results confirm that our species of pseudomonades is also capable of slow decomposition of pesticide residues, which is positively reflected by the range of succeedings crops.
Hence bacteria in general are sensitive to UV radiation, it is important to avoid sharp sunlight during the application. Administration during cloudy days or in the evening is therefore strongly suggested. To make sure that the pathway to roots is as smooth as possible for the bacteria, the solution should be applied to humid soil, shortly before, during or after the rain.
Bacteria contained in PROMETHEUS®CZ come from our climatic conditions, therefore tolerating a wide range of temperatures. Any temperature above 0°C can be recommended for the administration of this product.
Dosage:
Application dose: 1 l/ha, the amount of water: 200-600 l/ha, depending on the soil moisture.
In pruduction conditions, the harvest gain averages 6% and it is usually even more profound in the years of elevated fungal infestation.
Treated vegetation is more vigorous; especially in June and August, the differences in vegetation cover are easily noticeable by naked eye. Leaves of treated crops stay green for an extended period of time and tend to dry out and fall off later. The growing season is prolonged by a couple of days thanks to the increased plant fitness.
During warm autumns and winters, vegetating oilseed meets elevated stress due to the nutrient deficiency; this condition is manifested by the leaves turning purple. PROMETHEUS®CZ helps to release the necessary nutrients from the soil, therefore allowing the plants to stay green longer.
Terms for application:
Early application will prevent the seedling damping-off and subsequent voids in the stand. Throughout the entire growing season, the plants are protected against primary infections from the soil. Extended supply of nutrients is dramatically reflected in the increase of overall vitality of vegetation and subsequent yield of poppyseed (see Trial Results & Farmers' Experiences).
Terms for application:
Pseumonades protect the plant against primary infections from the soil. By their simple presence in the root system, an induced protection is triggered in the plant, which is manifested also in the aboveground parts. Thanks to the improved availability of nutrients throughout the growing season (including the ripening phase), we can achieve a higher yield of achenes, as well as their elevated oil content.
